The Game Room: Where Even Grown Ups Get to Be Kids

Posted by Administrator at 8:00 am

Is your day consumed with getting from one place to the next, carting kids around and working to pay the bills? Do you come home exhausted and maybe even a bit envious of the fact that your kids don’t yet realize what the “real world” has in store for them? Do you long to have a few minutes every day just to disconnect from the responsibilities of the world around you and reconnect with your family?

We have the perfect solution for every hardworking soul out there who needs a way to relax and unwind: A game room.

A game room not only gives you a place to which you can escape after a long day but it also gives you an excuse to escape from the real world and be a kid again. As you disconnect from your electronics and reconnect with your family, you may find yourself smiling more often and really enjoying life again.

The whole idea behind working isn’t just to earn a living but to afford a life during your downtime. You work to have fun.

To create the perfect game room (or man cave, if you need an estrogen-free zone), choose game tables and décor that truly represent your personality. Are you a billiards type of person, or do you prefer a friendly game of table tennis? Do you want to demonstrate your loyalty for your favorite team or just provide everyone with a comfortable place to hang out? As well, choose from a variety of game tables that allow you to engage with others in friendly sport. A shuffleboard table, a pinball machine or a pool table can truly make your space inviting for everyone.

You may have to get up and go to work every morning, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your downtime in style with a game room or a man cave that helps you disconnect, relax and unwind after a hard day’s work.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Posted by Administrator at 8:00 am

November brings with it so much change: from turning back the clocks to turning up the thermostat, from carving turkey to carving out time with family, this time of year brings colder weather, holiday excitement and a connection with our distant relatives that is often lacking during the rest of the year.

And while November might also divide our focus between men with beards, motivated writers and football (you can’t forget football!), this month, above all else, is a wonderful time for reflecting on a year that is almost complete. November gives us an opportunity to focus on all that for which we have to be grateful.

Here at eFamilyFun, we are grateful for so much, but mostly we are grateful for the customers and colleagues who have continued to support us year after year. It is incredibly humbling to stop and consider how each of our customers impacts our lives with their kind sentiments and loyalty. It makes coming to work each day something to which we look forward.

Whether you get up early to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade or split your time between browning the turkey and browsing circulars to decide where you’ll be doing your Black Friday shopping, we hope you have a moment to reflect on what fills you with gratitude. You certainly give us a reason to be grateful.

Have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Get Your Game On

Posted by Administrator at 6:11 pm

Signs that it’s colder outside:

  • Your kids ask for a ride to school instead of wanting to walk with their friends
  • There are not enough blankets in the house to keep you warm at night
  • Sitting out on the front porch at the end of the day has become a distant memory
  • You can’t get the kids off the sofa or disconnected from their electronics to go outside and play (which may happen in homes year ‘round, but for the sake of argument, this probably applies most often to colder months)

When the signs of cold weather hit your neighborhood, there’s nothing you can do but make staying inside a lot more fun!

Whether you already have a game room and the kids are just bored with the same old foosball table, or you’re finally looking for a better way to beat the winter doldrums than by playing 16 levels of Angry Birds every afternoon, we have great ideas to help you get your game on this winter.

Multigame Tables Mean You’ll Rarely (if ever) Get Bored

Multigame tables give you and the kids plenty of options in the game room, without taking up too much space. The Playcraft Danbury 14-in-1 combination game table gives you the ability to play table tennis, foosball, pool, bowling, shuffleboard, basketball and a number of other family games all in one unit. This is one of the best game table investments you can make for your game room.

Get Into the Hockey Season with a Bubble Hockey Table

Rather than just watch hockey games on TV, why not bring a little hockey action into your home with a PGI – IceBoxx Deluxe Dome Hockey Table. The infrared scoring system displays 15-minute quarters, free play, time and scoring limits, as well as volume settings (for mom and dad) and a reset button so you can keep playing!

Don’t let the winter blues get to you! We have games tables to keep the whole family happy!

Christmas Countdown – Gift Ideas for Teens

Posted by Administrator at 8:00 am

Gen X and Gen Y have had their day, but today’s teens are typically referred to as Generation Z, the “connected” generation. These teens have grown up always having immediate access to information and entertainment through computers and other electronics. This is the first generation of teens who will never know the experience of eagerly waiting for the music store to open in order to buy a newly-released album from their favorite band; they’ve never even known a world in which Ask.com wasn’t there to answer all of their homework questions!

In this world of instant gratification, shopping for teens can be a challenge, so we’ve put together a guide to help you navigate the holidays with your teen.

Video games are always a hit for teens. From the best-selling Xbox and Nintendo game franchises, such as Call of Duty, Halo and Final Fantasy, to app-based games like Angry Birds, teens thrive on video games. If you want to bring a little Gen-X influence to your “connected” teens, consider introducing them to Pac-Man – a game the whole family can enjoy!

Speaking of Connected…

If your teens’ wish lists do not already include a cell phone, it’s only because they already have one. Most teens are thrilled with any type of gift that keeps them connected with their friends, whether it’s a cell phone or an iPod (the newest generation of iPod devices come with apps that allow teens to chat with their friends).

Feed Their Passion

From aspiring drummers to social activists, your teens are beginning to develop their sense of self, and any gift demonstrating that you recognize what is important to them can make Christmas special.

Image Isn’t Everything, but for Teens, It’s Something

The one thing that hasn’t changed for teenagers, whether or not they grew up in the 70s, 80s, 90s or today, is that they are still trying to jockey for position in the social scheme at school. Clothes and jewelry (or gift cards that let them buy things that match their own style) will always go over well.

Halloween Safety Tips from eFamilyFun

Posted by Administrator at 8:00 am

We talk a lot about man caves here, and while we believe every man (and woman) should have their castle, we’re a very family-oriented company as well. We love the trend that we’ve seen happening across the country where more people are disconnecting from electronics and spending real, quality time with their kids. It does make a difference.

With Halloween just around the corner, we thought it would be a good time to remind everyone about doing their part to keep kids safe as they indulge in their sugar fix of the season. Don’t forget to:

  • Make sure no matter what kind of costume your kids are wearing that they can see clearly and have good visibility.
  • Have kids wear something reflective, so that motorists can see them.
  • Keep your kids from running out into the street or between vehicles.
  • Thoroughly check candy before allowing your kids to eat it, and never let them eat treats while they are trick-or-treating, as you will not be able to check the candy well in the dark, and you may not be able to tell if they are choking.

If your kids have outgrown trick-or-treating or you’d prefer to celebrate at home, it’s a great time to host a Halloween party. If you don’t have a game room or a kid-friendly man cave, you can transform a basement, barn or garage into a perfect party place, with a few decorations, lots of fun foods and some great games.

We have everything you need to make your party a success, from a juke box to play spooky tunes to an assortment of bean bag chairs and the best selection of game room tables imaginable.

No matter how you celebrate the harvest season, we hope you enjoy some time with your family. And if you do have trick-or-treaters in your home, be sure to share your favorite pictures on our Facebook page.

Unplug and Enjoy Family Time

Posted by Administrator at 6:00 am

Most of them will fit in the palm of your hand. They are small. They are EVERYWHERE.

No, we’re not talking about ping pong balls.

From phones to handheld gaming devices, regardless of the kind of electronic entertainment in which your children may have their faces buried, these small devices have changed the way that family members interact with each other. It is difficult for parents to compete with the instant gratification that their kids realize from these gadgets. And if we are truly honest with ourselves, adults tend to have the same challenge. We all need to learn to unplug and interact with each other as humans from time to time!

Families need to get back to spending time together, talking to each other face to face instead of screen to screen. There are so many things that families can do to encourage the kind of togetherness that will compel everyone to put the handheld gadgets aside, so that they can plug into each other instead of plugging in to their devices.

Family game night is a first-rate option for improving interaction. And there are a variety of game options that can be tailored to family members of any age. Create a game room space in your home that includes table tennis and foosball, encouraging everyone to not only disconnect but to get up from the sofa and move a little. You are sure to find some game that can be fun for everyone.

You don’t have to permanently replace electronics with a specific activity; simply set a time when electronic devices are turned off before bed, giving everyone a chance to take care of different tasks and activities that may otherwise be overlooked.

As parents, we need to ensure that our children do not turn into little machines themselves – and that starts by setting the right example and disconnecting, too. As human beings, we thrive on face-to-face human interaction. Going head to head playing table tennis, foosball or air hockey can help maintain mental and physical skills, and we can foster the skills of being benevolent human beings, void of the constant distractions of this electronic age.

Man Cave Recipes

Posted by Administrator at 8:46 am

If you have even a small corner of your house that you can call your own, and you’ve been able to turn that space into a man cave – even if it is only furnished with a sofa, a TV and a pool table – consider yourself lucky. And invite all of your friends who aren’t quite so fortunate to enjoy a game with you.

To plan the perfect man-cave gathering, you’ll need a game schedule, some extra seating, a variety of drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and lots of food. While bags of chips and bowls of peanuts, as well as delivered pizza, will also work, consider preparing a few of our favorite man-cave recipes that are simple enough you won’t have to ask for help in the kitchen.

Pizza Rolls

You could buy the frozen ones, but if you’re looking for something a little more stylish, these are easy enough to make. All you need is pizza dough, sauce, cheese and your favorite meat topping. This video from Man Cave Meals will walk you through the process of making these delicious man-cave treats.

These may be messy, but they are oh-so-delicious. Our favorite recipe starts with a sturdy taco chip of your choice. Then add nacho cheese, taco meat, black olives, jalapeños, onions, salsa, sour cream and guacamole. Pile the ingredients high. And be sure you have plenty of napkins on hand.

Beer Cheese Soup

While this one takes a little more prep time, you can leave it on the stove once it’s done, keeping it warm. You can go back for more whenever you want. The ingredients are simple enough: onion, a bottle of beer, Worcestershire sauce, flour, butter, chicken broth, mustard, and cheese. Learn how to make this recipe from Man Cave Munchies.

Popcorn on Demand

No man cave is complete (guests or no guests) without popcorn. We make it easy for you enjoy this treat with the Paragon Cineplex Popcorn Machine. Popcorn can be at the ready whenever you are ready to escape.

Fall Weather Means More Time Indoors

Posted by Administrator at 8:00 am

The rainy season has kicked in for most areas, and the nights are starting to get cooler. It’s also getting dark earlier, and while you still might sneak outside to grill up some steaks, it’s likely that you’re spending a lot more time inside than out these days. While we’re all sad to see the summer come to an end so quickly, there are benefits to spending more time inside, especially if you spend some of that time away from the TV.

Football season is in high gear and that may dominate your thoughts for much of each week. But when you are ready for a stretch and a break from staring at the TV screen, consider playing a game of table tennis. You can actually burn 400-600 calories! That’s more than you’d burn going for a walk through the neighborhood and almost enough to compensate for a Big Mac or up to four cans of beer (PSA: Always drink responsibly).

If you’re looking for a way to keep that extra pizza you eat on Monday nights from adding to your waistline, make Tuesday night table tennis night. Include the family and have a table tennis tournament, or just head to your game room or man cave with a buddy and burn off some steam (this can be especially effective if your fantasy football team isn’t doing as well as expected).

If you still don’t have a table, eFamilyFun offers a wide variety of table tennis options, including this Killerspin Professional Table Tennis Table that qualifies for free shipping. All you’ve got to lose is your waistline!

The Revival of Shuffleboard

Posted by Administrator at 8:00 am

It’s happening all over the country: Bars and clubs are installing shuffleboard tables, and people, anxious to play, are flocking to them. Even though the game has been around for decades, it is experiencing a sudden surge in popularity. In Florida, for example, the sport is becoming more popular than golf!

While shuffleboard began as a deck game, the table version is becoming a serious contender against pool tables and dart boards around the country, and it’s beginning to make its way into the man caves and game rooms of lucky homes as well.

Shuffleboard tables come in a variety of sizes that make it easier to choose one that will fit your space, and while it takes some time and effort to master the game, the challenge and enjoyment is infectious.

The International Shuffleboard Association was founded in St. Petersburg in 1979. The club, whose members play the deck form of the game, struggled to maintain membership, dropping to 35 members in 2005 after seeing a peak of 8,000 members in the late 40s. Now membership has spiked to 200 and continues to grow. The 2013 World Shuffleboard Singles Championship will be held at the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club in late October 2013.

Whether you’re brushing up on your game, to attend the championship, or just can’t get enough of shuffleboard in your neighborhood, consider one of the fine shuffleboards available at eFamilyFun, such as the Playcraft Woodbridge Shuffleboard Table in Honey Oak, available in 9’, 12’, 14’ and 16’ lengths and qualifies for free shipping. It makes a perfect addition to your  man cave or game room; it also can be a draw for your club or bar.
